During the week 24-29th the Moot Hall will be taken over as a community arts/culture/heritage venue with a variety of activities scheduled. They include: a photography and ceramics exhibition, ceramics and poetry workshop, an illustrated talk on 'The Great Stone Heads of Northumberland', colourful characters from Hexham's Georgian Past, a Tyne Valley Murder Mystery in 1765 and singing and ceramics.

Hexham Abbey Revealed imageHEXHAM ABBEY REVEALED – A Day School to share the recent discoveries of the Hexham Abbey Project 2009 – 2017

10 am – 4 pm

Join our team of knowledgeable experts in a series of workshops to explore the rich heritage of the Abbey buildings and its treasures. The event will be accompanied by a book covering the exciting findings of the ambitious Abbey Project. All participants in the Day School will receive a complimentary copy of the book prior to its publication by Hexham Local History Society on 10th July 2017, to retail at £9.

Hexham Hidden Gardens – are opened for a second year! This year there will be 10 gardens open, some large, some small, and all for the small price of £5.00. All proceeds to Hexham Community Partnership for their work with community regeneration. Weather permitting, there will be live music at some gardens, as well as plant cuttings, gardening books, a raffle for some hand-turned wooden bowls, tea, cake & friendly garden advice from all the owners.

  • Delegate Cottage, Fellside (an easy walk up the footpath from Woodside Villas)

Hexham Abbey Flower Festival logoHEXHAM ABBEY FLOWER FESTIVAL
21-23rd July

The inaugural Hexham Abbey Flower Festival will be a family fun weekend of activities and entertainment, all with a flower and outdoor theme! The whole inside of the Abbey will be covered in around 40 individual flower displays, put together by the Hexham and District Flower Club. Outside on the Abbey lawns, there will be a marquee and market stalls featuring a host of demonstrations, seminars and fun childrens’ activities.

Hexham's Flavinus Day celebration photoFLAVINUS DAY – HEXHAM’S ROMAN FESTIVAL
28th August 2017

Celebrating Hexham’s famous Roman Cavalryman, Flavinus Day features everything from Roman soldiers fighting Celts, to shield drills, authentic food and drink, tours of the Abbey and a host of fun and educational content. Flavinus was a standard bearer of the Ala Petriana, one of the elite cavalry regiments of the Roman empire. His story will be told inside the Abbey with a new exhibition detailing the life of a Roman cavalryman.

Outdoors on the lawns there will be a fun filled day of activities led by a team of Roman re-enactors, with something for all ages. Come along to learn and experience life as a Roman!
